Being SINGLE (Singleness - Part 2)
I knew
when I finished my first
post about singleness that I wanted to write more about this topic, but
never found the words. Recently, the words hit me.
Single
is a term that we use to describe our relationship status, but it is so much
more than this.
To be
single is to be undivided.
To have an undivided heart.
To have an undivided heart.
To be
single focused.
Single hearted with a single eye.
Single hearted with a single eye.
SINGLE.
This
word has beautiful implications.
Paul
says this, “An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs—how he can
please the Lord. 33 But a married man is concerned about the
affairs of this world—how he can please his wife— 34 and his
interests are divided. An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord’s
affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a
married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world—how she can please
her husband. 35 I am saying this for your own good, not to
restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the
Lord.” (1 Cor.
7:32-35).
Marriage
is a beautiful thing. God designed it from the beginning. In fact, God
said it wasn't good for man to be alone and so he created a suitable helper for
him (Gen.2:18). So this isn't an argument against being married, but rather, a
refocusing of the heart.
As
stated in my previous
post, our culture is constantly feeding our NEED for marriage. It tells us
we are incomplete without it. So instead of celebrating a season of undivided
devotion to God and growing in our WHOLENESS in Him, we walk around feeling
like we are missing out and incomplete. We buy into the lie our culture feeds
us about our success as individuals based on our relationship status.
What if
instead of wishing away our single lives, we focused on learning to truly BE
SINGLE. Learning what it means to have a heart wholly undivided and
fixed on God. GOD alone is the ONE thing that is worth everything. Why not
learn to live for the single and sole purposes of God. Lay down
everything. Give HIM everything. Be SINGLE. Learn to trust in God for
everything. Every need. Every moment. Lay down your life and find the
SINGLE-MOST important part of your life in HIM.
"Singleness"
is something we should all strive for no matter our relationship status.
Lord,
make me single. Undivided. Completely yours.
